If music be the food of love, sing on, sing on, sing on ... (Shakespeare)

The symphonic meditation "Osternacht“ (Easter vigil) was written in 1987. It is subtitled with "Longing for heaven". In the classical sense the composition could be seen as symphonic poem. By the sacral context it containes also the aspect of an oratorio, which indeed bears characteristics of a church opera by the choreographic instructions given in the score. The composer uses here the ancient German Easter hymn "Christ ist erstanden" (Christ is risen) as well as the Gregorian Liturgy "Victimae pascali laudes" (Easter Antiphon). |
