The march op. 49 for brass band or military band composed in 1940 was awarded posthumously on the occasion of a compositional competition with the 1st prize.

The March op. 48 composed for large orchestra in 1938 was planned as part of a larger choral work entitled "Der Ruf" (The Call). However, due to the early death of Kranzhoff, it did not come to a further development.

Fynn Jannis Großmann, born in 1992, is active as a saxophone, oboe and double bass player in classical orchestras, jazz bands and cross-over projects. As a member of such ensembles or as a solo artist, he has been awarded numerous prizes (including the Culture Prize of the State of Schleswig-Holstein, Jazz Prize of the Kulturforum Kiel, Jugend Jazzt). His own band project, the Fynn Großmann Quintet, has been awarded several prizes (Young Munich Jazz Prize 2017, Jazz Prize Hannover 2017).

In addition, Fynn Großmann also acts as a composer and arranger. He has written this piece for the jazz big band TonBand, which he has directed since its founding in 2016.

As the composer, only 36 years old, fell in combat barely four years later at the beginning of the Second World War, this work seems like a foreboding foresight into one's own fate.
