Abendständchen (Evening serenade), a poem by Clemens Brentano from 1802, was set to music by Johannes Brahms in 1859 as the first of the Three Songs for Six-Part Choir, Op. 42. They are actually a cappella choral works. The piano serves primarily as a rehearsal aid.
