The high- to late-romantic wind quintet was composed in 1943. The 3rd movement is composed of variations on "Chant de la Creuse" from "18 Pièces brèves" by César Franck. The concluding fugue part of the final movement picks up this theme again. Thus a brad themaic bridge is constructed in an impressive manner.
The composer later reworked the wind quintet as a concert sonata for two pianos op.10. This version is also available here.

The movements:
I     Allegro moderato [6' 20"]
II    Scherzo [4' 45"]
III   Variations on a theme by César Franck [5' 10"]
VI   Finale [6' 20"]
